This metal was first discovered more than two centuries ago. However, it was not used in the industry for another 150 years. Yet, Tungsten has become an almost invaluable tool in today’s world. It can come in over a dozen different grades, all of which may be used for different applications. Tungsten only forms naturally when it is combined in four major mineral forms with calcium, iron, or manganese — and it can be bound with typical binders like cobalt or nickel. Plus, even it’s scrap can be incredibly useful! Tungsten carbide scrap is typically used in the United States, but about a third of it is exported for recycling.

As you can see, tungsten carbide is incredibly useful, with many different applications. Between its hardness, stiffness, and density, it provides a rather tough material that can be applied to the industry in various ways. While it may be difficult to say just how influential this metal is, tungsten has certainly had a significant impact and perhaps even changed the way the industry works!
